5/30/2023 0 Comments Savage rivals by becca steeleI thought the side characters were again really strong, already loved Lena from Winter and her books, loved how they were there for each other and helped grow and become the fabulous ladies they are now. I thought Raine was absolutely adorable and her feistiness really grew and flourished. I loved seeing some of the others from the various Becca series (I had read Preston and Kian's story before this one, so it was cool to see this side of things ❤️). So I mentioned already that Carter took me awhile to fall for him, but he eventually grew on me! I loved how possessive he was. Surprising from these characters, especially Raine! That's why you gotta be on the lookout for the quiet ones guys/ladies, they might shock you hehe. Not my usual kink I fall in love with, but Becca does an amazing job with it, making me want more from these 2 haha. OOOOOH and I was super happy and pleasantly surprised with the unexpected kink in this book. I loved this story of young love, heartache, intrigue, and SO MUCH ANGST!! I thought the plot was good, some of it was easy to spot but a couple twists were awesome and made for an exciting addition to this world Becca has beautifully created. So I love everything Becca Steele does and Trick Me Twice was no different! I think it did take me awhile to like the MMC in this one because he was such a jerk from the very beginning hahaha but he finally got the stick out of his butt and made it up to FMC.

But while some changes worked, others didn’t land as much. This Interview With the Vampire adaptation captured the Gothic mood of Rice’s celebrated 1976 novel, while reinventing it for the 21st century. Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire has now aired on AMC, and overall, the response was very positive. 5/30/2023 0 Comments Cows that type bookThis great sheet allowed the kids to write a letter to Farmer Brown from an animal. I put the four main characters on the cork board and cut out different sentences such as “I had a problem” and then I had the kids tape them on the character they belonged to. I love this activity to introduce the concept of characters in a story. Since we are doing the letter “C” this week, I thought it would be perfect to spend a day incorporating this book into our lessons. It’s the kind of book that is clever enough that even adults can appreciate it so I like it too! It is funny and it features great illustrations and animals, so it is one the kids love. Click, Clack Moo Cows That Typeby Doreen Cronin has long been one of our favourite read aloud books. 5/29/2023 0 Comments Leonard cohen youngHe was a favoured child: “the oldest son of the oldest son”. It has the kind of weight that could save your life.Ĭohen was born in 1934, a tad older than Elvis, a bit younger than Philip Roth. A Leonard Cohen song is an anchor flung into a churning sea. Funny about himself but profoundly serious about his art, he liked to describe his songs as “investigations” into the hidden mechanics of love, sex, war, religion and death – the beautiful and terrifying truths of existence. And whenever he managed to painfully extract some nugget of wisdom, he would cut and polish it like a precious stone before resuming the search. He tried to flush them out with booze and drugs and seduce them with melodies. He searched for clues in bedrooms and warzones, in Jewish temples and Buddhist retreats, in Europe, Africa, Israel and Cuba. What gave his work its uncommon gravitas wasn’t that he knew the answers but that he never stopped looking. The truth was that Cohen felt as lost as anybody. The man knew things about life and if, you listened closely, you might learn something. The face suggested that he’d been around the block a few times the voice and words confirmed it. He was already 33 - ancient by 60s standards - when he gazed out from the sepia-tinted, photo-booth snapshot on the cover of 1967’s Songs of Leonard Cohen with his shirt, tie and smart side-parting. He was young once, of course, but the world never saw much of the modestly successful poet and novelist from Montreal. L eonard Cohen was always the grownup in the room. 5/29/2023 0 Comments Matt ruff booksThey fly two into the Tigris & Euphrates World Trade Towers in Baghdad, and a third into the Arab Defense. : Christian fundamentalists hijack four jetliners. Atticus Turner and his father, Montrose, must flee for their lives once again after a risky trip to North Carolina, to trace the escape route taken by an enslaved ancestor, turns deadly. The first, Fool on the Hill (1988), was written in college about a college that has a Greek god. It’s now 1957 and Ruff’s African American protagonists are still trying to survive and build meaningful lives in a racist country, a challenge complicated by their discovery of the existence of other worlds and people with magic powers. And yet Bad Monkeys is the best of Matt Ruffs four novels. Ruff’s sequel to 2016’s Lovecraft Country delivers another virtuoso blend of horror, action, and humor. Matthew Theron Ruff (born September 8, 1965) is an American author of thriller, science-fiction and comic novels, including The Mirage and Lovecraft Country. With vulnerability, humor, and quick-witted insights into racial, sexual, familial, and professional power dynamics, Gomez shares a hard-won path to taking pride in the parts of himself he was taught to keep hidden. Readers follow Gomez through the queer spaces where he learned to love being gay and Latinx, including Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, a drag queen convention in Los Angeles, and the doctor’s office where he was diagnosed a “high-risk homosexual.” In a world desperate to erase us, queer Latinx men must find ways to hold onto pride for survival, but excessive male pride is often what we are battling, both in ourselves and in others."Ī debut memoir about coming of age as a gay, Latinx man, High-Risk Homosexual opens in the ultimate anti-gay space: Edgar Gomez’s uncle’s cockfighting ring in Nicaragua, where he was sent at thirteen years old to become a man. In particular, effeminate queer men represent a simultaneous rejection and embrace of masculinity. "I’ve always found the definition of machismo to be ironic, considering that pride is a word almost unanimously associated with queer people, the enemy of machistas. This witty memoir traces a touching and often hilarious spiralic path to embracing a gay, Latinx identity against a culture of machismo-from a cockfighting ring in Nicaragua to cities across the U.S.-and the bath houses, night clubs, and drag queens who help redefine pride. 5/29/2023 0 Comments Kicking Goals Journal by Sam Kerr‘A fun book packed with cool illustrations.
